Privilege escalation via BPCD arbitrary file write
Published Mar 23, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025
Arbitrary file write in Veritas NetBackup before 8.3.0.2 allows local users to elevate privileges through a NetBackup command. BPCD accepts an unprivileged caller-specified log path and overwrites the referenced NetBackup log file without adequate privilege enforcement. Local command access is required, and successful exploitation can compromise the host through privileged file modification.
