CVE-2023-28576

Kernel memory corruption via mutable packet headers

Published Aug 8, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

TOCTOU race in the Qualcomm Snapdragon camera kernel driver allows local users to cause out-of-bounds reads and writes via shared buffers. cam_mem_get_cpu_buf() returns a buffer that remains writable from user space after the kernel validates its packet header, so header.count can change before the checked value is used. Exploitation requires local high privileges and winning the race, enabling kernel-memory disclosure or corruption without user interaction.
