Credential disclosure via reversible UniRPC obfuscation
Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
Weak encryption in Rocket Software UniData and UniVerse for Linux allows remote attackers to recover credentials from UniRPC traffic. UniRPC XORs packet bodies with a header-disclosed constant and encodes passwords with reversible byte negation or small XOR keys; layered XOR can expose plaintext. Attackers must observe network traffic, and the demonstrated consequence is disclosure of transmitted passwords rather than data modification or service interruption.
