CVE-2023-28507Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Pre-authentication process crash via LZ4 retry loop

Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

Memory exhaustion in Rocket Software UniData and UniVerse on Linux allows remote attackers to crash forked UniRPC processes. In unirpcd, a failed LZ4_decompress_safe call is treated as an undersized output buffer, causing repeated reallocations until allocation fails. The default network service accepts the compressed message before authentication; sustained requests consume server memory, although each allocation is freed after failure.
