Remote code execution via unchecked string copy
Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
Buffer overflow in Rocket Software UniData and UniVerse allows remote authenticated users to execute code through the UniRPC service. U_get_string_value in libunidata.so passes an attacker-controlled packet string to the unbounded u2strcpy wrapper around strcpy, overwriting a caller-provided stack buffer. A valid login is normally required, but an unremediated UniRPC authentication bypass makes the path reachable without credentials and can yield root execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
