Root command execution via deterministic local credentials
Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
Authentication bypass in Rocket Software UniData and UniVerse on Linux allows remote attackers to execute operating system commands as root. The libunidata.so do_log_on_user() function accepts the hard-coded :local: username and derives its password from a chosen Linux account's name, UID, and GID instead of performing PAM authentication. The default UniRPC service is remotely reachable on TCP port 31438, and udadmin's intended OsCommand operation turns the bypass into root command execution.
