CVE-2023-2850Network attack vector

Private content disclosure via unchecked WebSocket handshake

Published Jul 25, 2023 · Updated Oct 15, 2024

Cross-site WebSocket hijacking in NodeBB before 2.8.13 and 3.0.0 through 3.1.2 allows remote attackers to read private user content. The Socket.IO connection handler accepts a browser session without validating a per-session CSRF token during the WebSocket handshake. A victim must be signed in and open an attacker-controlled site, which can use the ambient NodeBB session to retrieve private messages or posts.
