Authenticated file overwrite via unchecked export path
Published Apr 20, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Path traversal in pretalx 2.3.1 before 2.3.2 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite arbitrary server files through HTML export. The dump_content function strips only leading slashes from a URL-derived path, joins it to the export directory, and writes without verifying that the resolved path remains inside that directory. The off-by-default feature is reachable by a self-registered user with access to a scheduled talk; file content is normally limited to the standard 404 page, but debug mode permits attacker-controlled content and code execution.
