CVE-2023-28446Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Command execution via spoofed permission prompts

Published Mar 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 19, 2025

Permission prompt spoofing in Deno 1.8.0 through 1.31.1 allows remote attackers to gain run access through crafted program names. The op_spawn_child and op_kill prompts render attacker-controlled program names without neutralizing ANSI cursor and line-clearing sequences, so displayed commands can be replaced. Exploitation requires an attached interactive prompt and user approval; headless execution is unaffected, and releases before 1.31.0 also require the unstable flag.
