CVE-2023-2839Public exploit

Application crash via zero DASH timescale

Published May 22, 2023 · Updated Jan 21, 2025

Divide by zero in GPAC before 2.2.2 allows local users to crash MP4Box during DASH packaging of a crafted AVC stream. The dasher_mark_segment_start function divides last_min_segment_start_time by an unchecked ds->timescale value that the malformed stream leaves at zero. Processing the file with MP4Box's DASH path is required, and the demonstrated consequence is application termination from a floating-point exception.
