External API key disclosure via embedded credential
Published Jun 30, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in NewsPicks App for Android 10.4.5 and earlier and iOS 10.4.2 and earlier allow local users to obtain an external API key. The distributed application package embeds the external-service API key as static data that can be recovered by analyzing the app. Access to an affected app package is required, and the consequence is limited to disclosure of the embedded key rather than direct impact on app users.
