CVE-2023-2838Public exploit

Process crash via unchecked filter PID dereference

Published May 22, 2023 · Updated Jan 21, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in GPAC before 2.2.2 allows local users to crash MP4Box by DASH-processing a crafted media file. In gf_filter_get_stats, the filter-input loop dereferences pidi->pid to read codec and stream metadata without first checking whether that PID pointer is null. Triggering the flaw requires local invocation of MP4Box's DASH workflow on attacker-controlled media, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
