Arbitrary file write via script path traversal
Published Mar 15, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025
Path traversal in Stellarium 1.2 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to write arbitrary local files through a crafted script. StelScriptOutput::saveOutputAs accepts a script-supplied filename and blocks absolute paths but not names containing .., allowing output to escape the intended directory. The user must run an untrusted Stellarium script; writes occur with that user's permissions and can overwrite configuration or command files.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
