CVE-2023-28358Network attack vector

Account takeover via Search Messages tag injection

Published May 11, 2023 · Updated Jan 27, 2025

Cross-site scripting in Rocket.Chat before 6.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's session through Search Messages. The Search Messages markdown parser permits malicious tags to remain in rendered search results instead of neutralizing them. Execution requires user interaction and a server with Content Security Policy disabled; the resulting script can hijack the user's account.
