Unauthenticated SYSTEM command execution via NRPE argument injection
Published Jan 9, 2025 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Command injection in Opsview Monitor Agent 6.8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM through NRPE. Default Windows NRPE handlers accept metacharacters and interpolate remote arguments into command pipelines that feed PowerShell without neutralization. The exposed NRPE service requires no authentication, and successful injection runs with the agent service's default Local System privileges.
