SYSTEM code execution via unauthenticated teacher impersonation
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 13, 2025
Origin validation failure in Faronics Insight 10.0.19045 allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM from the local network. Student Consoles accept unauthenticated UDP DISCO and START messages without cryptographically validating the Teacher Console, then open attacker-controlled HTTP and WebSocket sessions. Any adjacent-network attacker can impersonate a teacher, write a malicious DLL into the Student installation directory, and restart Insight to execute it as SYSTEM.
