SYSTEM code execution via unsanitized loggedInUser field
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 13, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Faronics Insight 10.0.19045 on Windows allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM without user action. The Teacher Console inserts the loggedInUser value from an unauthenticated updateSTAgentStatus request directly into the DOM, executing embedded JavaScript. A network-adjacent attacker can impersonate a Student Console and use privileged console functions to deploy a DLL and restart connected consoles, executing it as SYSTEM.
