Desktop surveillance and manipulation via unauthenticated APIs
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Missing access controls in Faronics Insight 10.0.19045 allow remote attackers to read and replace student desktop screenshots over the network. The Teacher Console's /uploads/screenshots/agent_id.jpeg GET path and /api/uploadscreenshot/agent_id POST path perform no authentication or authorization before returning or accepting images. Any network-connected attacker who determines a student's agent ID can monitor a low-frame-rate desktop feed or replace the teacher's view with falsified images.
