CVE-2023-28339Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via terminal ioctl injection

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Privilege escalation in OpenDoas 6.8.2 and earlier allows local users to execute commands with the invoking user's privileges. Its command-launch path leaves the target process attached to the caller's controlling terminal, so TIOCSTI or TIOCLINUX can enqueue attacker-chosen bytes for the caller's shell. Exploitation requires an interactive shared terminal, permission to invoke a command as another user, and a kernel that permits the terminal ioctl.
