Unauthorized message editing via manipulated room identifier
Published May 11, 2023 · Updated Jan 27, 2025
Improper authorization in Rocket.Chat before 6.0 allows remote authenticated users to edit messages in restricted rooms via a crafted rid. The updateMessage method checks access against the caller-supplied rid but does not bind that room identifier to the message selected for modification. A valid user session and edit access to the supplied room satisfy the gate; exploitation changes an existing message outside the permitted room.
