CVE-2023-28317Network attack vector

Message chronology falsification via editable send timestamps

Published May 9, 2023 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Improper authorization in Rocket.Chat before 6.0 allows remote attackers to falsify message timestamps through message editing. The message-editing path accepts changes to a message's original send timestamp, letting edited entries be reordered in the user interface. The attacker must be able to edit a message; the result is falsified conversation chronology rather than data disclosure or service interruption.
