Unauthenticated file read via unsanitized upload filename
Published May 26, 2023 · Updated Jan 15, 2025
Path traversal in GitLab CE/EE 16.0.0 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary server files through a crafted upload filename. The project uploads controller fails to sanitize traversal characters in its filename parameter before resolving and returning the requested path. Exploitation requires an attachment in a public project nested within at least five groups; successful requests disclose files readable by the service.
