Device access via shared local-file permission key
Published Jun 2, 2023 · Updated Jan 9, 2025
Permission isolation failure in Site Permissions in Mozilla Firefox before 111 allows attackers to access granted devices through local files. SitePermissions keyed temporary allows by the shared file:// prePath, so every file URL loaded in one tab inherited the same grant. Exploitation requires a user to grant a one-time permission to one local document and then open an attacker-controlled local file in that tab, exposing only the granted capability.
