CVE-2023-2816Network attack vector

Unauthorized proxy modification via shared extension ingestion

Published Jun 2, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024

Authorization bypass in HashiCorp Consul and Consul Enterprise 1.15.0 through 1.15.2 allows remote authenticated users to alter proxy behavior. Shared Lambda and Lua extension ingestion logic applies outbound Lua configuration to remote downstream proxies instead of the configured service's local proxy. The attacker needs service:write permission for one service; exploitation can change traffic handling by proxies for services the account cannot modify.
