Unauthorized access via retained default operator credentials

Use of default passwords in Pega Platform 7.4 through 8.8.x allows remote attackers to gain unauthorized access after certain upgrades. Upgrades from releases before 8.x can retain default operator accounts with known username and password combinations instead of disabling or removing them. Exposure requires such an upgrade and unchanged credentials; successful login grants the privileges assigned to the affected operator.
