Blocked-domain link previews via UTF confusable URLs
Published May 29, 2023 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Improper input validation in Mattermost release lines before 7.1.9, 7.8.4, and 7.9.3 allows remote authenticated users to preview blocked domains. Mattermost compares a link host with preview restrictions without first normalizing UTF confusable characters, so a crafted hostname bypasses the domain check. Posting the link requires an authenticated account and causes the server to fetch and render a preview from a domain that policy intended to exclude.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
