SYSTEM code execution via weak installation permissions
Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Incorrect default permissions in Dell PowerPath for Windows 7.0 through 7.2 allow local users to execute code as SYSTEM. Dell identifies weak permissions on PowerPath files and folders but does not disclose the affected paths or permission entries. A regular non-admin account with local access is required; successful exploitation escalates that account to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and enables arbitrary code execution.
