CVE-2023-28061

Firmware memory disclosure via reused NVRAM length

Published Jun 23, 2023 · Updated Nov 8, 2024

Information disclosure in Dell Client Platform BIOS allows local users with administrator privileges to read stack or global memory. In the BoardInitDxe module, GetVariable overwrites DataSize with an attacker-controlled NVRAM length, and SetVariable reuses that length to copy adjacent memory into RebootCounter10GLom. Exploitation requires high local access; the direct result is disclosure of firmware memory, while code execution or persistence requires chaining another flaw.
