CVE-2023-28047

Privilege escalation via arbitrary installer file creation

Published Apr 20, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Arbitrary file creation in Dell Display Manager 2.1.0 and earlier allows local users to execute code with high privileges during installation. Dell identifies the installer as the affected locus but has not published which filesystem operation accepts an attacker-controlled path or content. Exploitation requires a low-privilege local account and user interaction with installation, after which attacker-controlled code runs with elevated operating-system privileges.
