Service interruption via temporary-file creation race
Published May 18, 2023 · Updated Jan 21, 2025
Insecure temporary-file creation in Hugging Face Transformers before 4.30.0 allows local users to interrupt service via a file race. The download_url function calls tempfile.mktemp to choose a pathname, then opens that path separately for an HTTP response, leaving a race before file creation. A low-privileged local user must predict and claim the temporary pathname during that window; the published impact is limited to loss of availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
