Remote command execution via unsanitized filename
Published Apr 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Command injection in broccoli-compass 0.2.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via attacker-controlled filenames in the files option. The compileSass path passes each files entry directly to Node.js child_process.exec without sanitization, so shell metacharacters in a filename become commands. Exploitation requires a consuming Node.js application to let remote input reach files; successful payloads run with that process's operating-system privileges.
