Local Administrator access via Base64-encoded password
Published Oct 19, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Privilege escalation in IXP Data Easy Install 6.6.14884.0 allows local users to obtain full Administrator access from a standard account. FUN_14001a3b0() Base64-encodes the local Administrator password, and FUN_140070560() writes it under tag 5155 in C:\IXP\DATA\INVENTORY.IXP. An unprivileged Windows user can read the file through separately weak filesystem access controls, decode the stored value, and authenticate as Administrator.
