Administrator escalation via time-seeded password generation
Published Oct 19, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Insecure password generation in IXP Data Easy Install 6.6.148840 allows remote attackers to obtain local Administrator access. The LAPM password generator seeds srand with the current _time64 value, then uses rand to build the Administrator password, making its output reproducible. Exploitation requires the password-change time plus the configured length and character classes; a successful login grants full administrative rights.
