Process abort via unchecked null cleanup context
Published Mar 16, 2023 · Updated Feb 26, 2025
Reachable assertion in Tcpreplay tcprewrite 4.4.3 allows remote attackers to abort the process through a crafted pcap file. The DLT_JUNIPER_ETHER cleanup path passes a null subcontext to tcpedit_dlt_cleanup, whose ctx assertion terminates execution. Exploitation requires an operator to process the attacker-supplied capture with tcprewrite in jnpr_eth mode, limiting impact to that CLI process.
