CVE-2023-27588Network attack vector

Admin-secret disclosure via console asset path traversal

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025

Path traversal in affected Hasura GraphQL Engine releases allows remote attackers to recover the console and API admin secret. The Console custom-assets handler uses a request path in Haskell filesystem operations without neutralizing repeated ../ segments, allowing paths outside the configured assets directory to be enumerated. Exposure requires self-hosting with HASURA_GRAPHQL_CONSOLE_ASSETS_DIR set, the console enabled or release 2.17.0 or later, untrusted network access, and no path-traversal filter; Hasura Cloud is unaffected.
