Super-admin takeover via manipulated account identifiers
Published Aug 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024
Authorization bypass in phpList before 3.6.14 allows remote authenticated users to take over the super-admin account via account editing. The administrator-edit handler trusts user-controlled ID and username parameters during updatepassword requests, letting a non-superuser replace the super-admin email without the required confirmation. A valid lower-privileged administrator session is required; control of the replacement email then enables a password reset and full super-admin access.
