Member-to-owner escalation via unrestricted profile assignment
Published May 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 27, 2025
Privilege escalation in n8n before 0.216.1 allows remote authenticated users to grant themselves the owner role through a profile update. The MeController updateCurrentUser method merges the request body into the current user object and saves fields without an allowlist. Any member account can set its own global role to owner; changing another user's identity additionally requires that user's identifier.
