CVE-2023-27408

Integrity interference via world-writable i2c mutex

Published May 9, 2023 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Creation of an insecure temporary file in Siemens SCALANCE LPE9403 before 2.1 allows local users to alter i2c coordination data. The device creates the i2c mutex file as world-writable, allowing unrelated processes to modify the mutex used by multiple i2c applications. An authenticated user must reach the device's SSH interface; the documented consequence is integrity interference with the mutex and protected data, not disclosure or service interruption.
