CVE-2023-27217Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated command execution via unsafe FriendlyName copy

Published May 18, 2023 · Updated Jan 22, 2025

Stack buffer overflow in Belkin Wemo Mini Smart Plug V2 2.00.11420.OWRT.PVT_SNSV2 allows remote attackers to execute commands via UPnP. The wemo_ctrl executable passes the attacker-controlled FriendlyName to strcpy() in wemoStateUpdate(), overflowing a 68-byte stack buffer without a canary. An unauthenticated UPnP request can crash and restart the process; repeated attempts can redirect control flow into system() and run shell commands on the plug.
