Unauthenticated account impersonation via weak JWT secret
Published Dec 20, 2023 · Updated May 6, 2025
Authentication bypass in Xpand IT Write-back Manager 2.3.1 allows remote attackers to impersonate users with forged JWTs. The manager and Tableau plug-in sign session tokens with the same hard-coded secret stored in WEB-INF/classes/config.yml, which a common-word dictionary cracks. No prior account is required; a forged token can alter claims, open manager or plug-in sessions as any user, and cross otherwise unrelated manager instances.
