Stored script execution via unrestricted Markdown upload
Published Mar 10, 2023 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Halo 1.6.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute attacker-controlled JavaScript by uploading a crafted Markdown file. The /api/admin/backups/markdown/import endpoint accepts a malicious .md upload without preventing script content, and the stored content executes when an article is viewed. Administrative upload access and viewer interaction are required; the demonstrated consequence is script execution and information disclosure in the viewing context.
