Service interruption via unchecked DNS forwarding fields
Published Mar 13, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025
Buffer overflow in Tenda W15E firmware 15.11.0.14 allows remote attackers to interrupt the HTTP service via a crafted DNS forwarding request. The formModifyDnsForward handler in /bin/httpd passes unchecked DNSDomainName and related request fields to sprintf, overflowing a fixed-size buffer. The network management endpoint requires no privileges, and the published proof of concept demonstrates denial of service; return-address overwrite is reported, but code execution is not demonstrated.
