Microphone recording via missing permission handler
Published May 1, 2023 · Updated Jan 30, 2025
Incorrect access control in Obsidian Canvas 1.1.9 allows remote attackers to record microphone audio through an embedded web page. The Electron session lacks a permission-request handler, so JavaScript in an embedded page receives sensitive Web API access without a prompt. Exploitation requires the user to open a crafted Canvas file or add an attacker-controlled page, which can record audio or issue desktop notifications.
