CVE-2023-26965

Denial of service via heap use after free

Published Jun 14, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

LibTIFF through 4.5.0 allows local users to cause a denial of service by supplying a crafted TIFF image to tiffcrop. The loadImage() function in tools/tiffcrop.c uses heap memory after it has been freed while processing image data, leading to an out-of-bounds write and application crash. Exploitation requires user interaction to run tiffcrop on the malicious file; published scoring limits the impact to availability.
