Unauthenticated OS command execution via shell_exec
Published Mar 8, 2023 · Updated Mar 4, 2025
Command injection in Variscite matrix-gui 2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands through an HTTP request parameter. The execute-command.php endpoint reads the command query parameter and passes it unchanged to shell_exec, then returns the command output. No authentication gate is documented, so network access to the endpoint grants command execution with the web service's operating-system privileges.
