Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Jul 26, 2023 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Unquoted service path in ASUS Armoury Crate 5.3.4.0 allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM privileges on Windows. SetupAsusServices 1.0.5.1 registers its service executable path without surrounding quotes, causing Windows to probe writable parent directories before the intended binary. A local user with write access under C:\Program Files\ASUS gains SYSTEM-level code execution by placing ARMOURY.exe there and restarting the system.
