Authenticated command execution via unsanitized ping address
Published May 12, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
Command injection in Caton Live through 2023-04-26 allows remote authenticated users to execute operating-system commands via ping.cgi. The Mini_HTTPD /cgi-bin/ping.cgi handler fails to neutralize shell metacharacters in the address parameter before constructing a command. Management-interface access is required, and successful exploitation runs commands with the web service's privileges, enabling data access, configuration changes, or service interruption.
