CVE-2023-26486Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary JavaScript execution via forged scale context

Published Mar 3, 2023 · Updated Feb 25, 2025

Cross-site scripting in Vega Functions before 5.13.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript through a crafted visualization. The scale expression passes an attacker-supplied group to getScale as an internal context, then retrieves and invokes context.scales[name].value as a function. Exploitation requires an application to process attacker-controlled Vega definitions, and successful execution runs JavaScript in the rendering context.
