CVE-2023-26286Public exploit

Local root command execution via errlog resource name

Published Apr 26, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

OS command injection in IBM AIX 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and VIOS 3.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root. errdemon reads an attacker-controlled resource_name from an errlog() record on /dev/error and appends it to a shell command without neutralization. Any non-privileged local account that can invoke errlog() can inject shell metacharacters, causing the root service to run the supplied command.
