CVE-2023-26248Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Content censorship via Sybil peer placement

Published Oct 25, 2024 · Updated Oct 25, 2024

Content-resolution hijacking in libp2p go-libp2p-kad-dht 0.20.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to censor chosen IPFS content. The DHT stores provider records with peers whose IDs are closest to a content ID, letting generated Sybil identities occupy those positions. Unauthenticated network access and enough attacker-controlled peers are required; affected lookups resolve through the Sybil set instead of honest providers.
